Great food and service
I always order my burger Medium rare, it somehow always come out well done.
Just had the country fried bison and could only eat the fried breading. Couldn’t cut the steak with a knife much less chew it. My son had the country fried beef steak and enjoyed it. The potato’s were ok but lacked flavor. Biscuits and gravy were pretty good. Moral of the review is stay away from the bison. The waiter did want to replace the meat but I thought it would be more of the same. At least they had Texas A&M game on. The meal was taken off the bill so that says a lot for the service.
I love this a lot!! Not like the other places in town. My husband that blackened catfish and I had the grilled Shrimp entrees. The entrees were worth it!! Best we had in ever visiting in downtown Fredericksburg!! We will keep coming back to this place!!
Stopped in on a Monday I think. Service treated us so nice. Prices are appropriate for the quality.
Service was good, but charge $1.50 to change sides from fries (I am allergic to gluten so can't have from shared fryer so the extra cost almost caused us to leave) and wanted to charge more for a second cup of coffee. We are not used to refills 9f coffee costing extra.
I love this place , the food and atmosphere are awesome ! The menu has changed a lil since I last visited , but I will always recommend the BIson and am a lil disappointed that both last trips they have been out of the bison chicken fried steak ! I still love the Buffalo Nickel!!
The margaritas are a little weak. The staff and appetizers were good.
The service was only acceptable. The host was to busy on her phone to notice I was waiting to be seated. The food was ok
Edit for 2016:I keep coming back to The Nickel for its food and for its welcoming, mellow atmosphere, both of which have been consistently excellent ever since I first walked into this place back in 2012.The burgers here are among the best in town, the chicken-fried steak is "easily the best" in town, and the Fried Peanut Butter Dessert is unique and delicious.Given the sudden profusion of one-star reviews for this restaurant by dubious-looking Google profiles, I can only assume that some other local restaurateur is jealous. Don't let that put you off..Original 2015 Review:If there's one word that describes "The Nickel" it's consistent. This is the place I eat at when the Fredericksburg Brewing Company is shut and the food and beer are always uniformly great. The burgers might even be a little better than they are at the Brewery. It's just the fact that this place doesn't quite have the same atmosphere that swings it one way or the other.
Great food to end an awesome day at Enchanted Rock! Chicken fried chicken with a strawberry margarita..yum!!
After visiting the museum we stopped for a late lunch as it was the closest to our parking several blocks away. Like all if Fredericksburg they were busy. Caught last table without a wait. Slow getting seated and a wait for a server. After that it was great. Decent time on drinks and order. Food out in a reasonable time. Our burgers were some of the best we've had in ages. As long as the wait isn't bad I'd visit again without hesitation.
Very friendly staff , good food, good selection of beers. Restrooms were well maintained. Worth a visit.
Good food. Fun atmosphere. Friendly staff and prickly pear cactus margaritas
We wanted a burger and a beer. Saw this restaurant and stopped in. The website gave it $$ for price. For a Buffalo Nickel classic burger it was $12.95! That's more than $$ to me. It was good, but not exceptional to warrant $13 for a burger. It comes on a chibatti bun, which was fresh, but a bit greasy on the bottom from the burger. Fries were pretty peppery! My husband loved them. But they were also not very crispy, which I like. Everything on the menu was expensive. A bottle of Lone Star beer was $5. The dessert menu had a brownie sundae for $9!!! Even homemade, that's pretty pricey. $35 + tip was a big to much for two burgers and a beer. I had water. Bathroom was very clean but the one stools was pretty loose, not just the top but the whole thing! We're just passing through the area, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, nor would I return. Staff was friendly.
Wednesday night. Half price beer and 50 cent chicken wings. Hard to complain
Walking down Main Street looking for burgers and beer and found this place. Very impressed with the food—the Bison Chips were some of the best nachos we’ve ever had. Our waiter, Wyatt, recommended some great beer and drinks and told us about the owner’s culinary background which showed in the delicious food. We will tell all of our friends who come to town about this place and plan to definitely come back ourselves.
Fast friendly service and great food.
On a Bluebonnet day trip, stopped in here for lunch. We just beat the rush and ordered. After we ordered we realized they were really short staffed. Not our servers fault but our food came out cold as it had been sitting at the pickup window for a long time. The manager (?) quickly made it right and it was delicious.
Great wings..the best in town. Cocktails are a little bit po pricey
Great atmosphere and really good bison burgers. Jalapeno chicken poppers appetizer were just the right hot too.
Due to post-holiday busyness, our wait was rather lengthy, but worth it. Food was very delicious! A quaint little place off the beaten path.
Good food. Great desert.
Great food. Staff is very nice. There is a good bar to sit and have a drink. Very clean place. Would definitely go back again.
Stopped in for a few beers on our vacation to the Hill Country. We would love to live in that area and retire there
Would not seat our large party. We even offered a solution and everyone that was on one ticket would sit together, would have been one table of four, one table of three, and one table of two, we would sit separately! Waitress argued with us and refused to seat us because she couldn’t understand our solution, attempted to explain it again and then she continued to say, we don’t seat large parties!
50 cent wings and 2 buck draft on Wed after 4. Best deal in town.
Why isn't this place busy on Sundays? Slider specials that were delicious. Nice ambiance. We'll be back.
Great Bison sliders and good service
Great little place off the msin street. Prices & menu options reasonable for everyone.
Nice experience. Food was good, but slightly pricey. However, the people were having fun and was a little noisy. If you get the chance, check it out.
Perfectly cooked blue burger ..great service.... outstanding beers.
Great place to pop in for a snack
Pretty good. Nothing too outstanding. Enjoyed the visit and staff was quite nice.
Nice place but my food came out cold. Cold burger cold fries☹️
This place was terrible and way over priced. Waitress was rude once we expressed our dislike for the food. First off I got the hand squeezed lemonade. It tasted like pure lemon juice. She told me that is what authentic lemonade taste like. What a joke. I ordered the bison salad. Bison was over cooked and flavorless. The dressing was gross. The cheese on it tasted like congealed flour and grease. Husband got the burger with mushrooms and blue cheese. It had a gross greasy film on top and no flavor. $15 for a salad and $14 for a burger. Beer was flaaaaaaaaaat. Save your money.
One of our stops every trip to Fredricksburg! Love the atmosphere. Must tey or out!
We found this place off of Main Street and to our delight... it was great. I had the bison NY strip with jalapeno butter and mushrooms, my wife had blackened catfish. Service wasn't super fast but it was perfect since we stopped to cool down and eat after walking main street. If you're not in a hurry and want great food... wait and enjoy, it's worth it!
Unpretentious but great place to eat in Fredericksburg/TX. Great burgers, beer on draft, casual ambience.
Poorly Cooked, Sour food, Expensive with angry cooks. Do not eat here, I went here because I was interested in trying out their buffalo meat. The place is clean and the waitress was friendly. However the food was horrible. The buffalo burger was raw undercooked and when requesting another one the cook literally just dropped the plate at me. I also feel the re-cooked plate was regular meat because the taste and texture of the meat was completely different. My friend got the buffalo fried steak and more than half was tough to the point it was unedible. In the end, no manager came by to apologize for the mis-cooked food and it was full priced.
Restaurant is well located off main street and has a good selection of food. Beer selection is poor and the food is relatively expensive especially when a service charge is included. Not the best restaurant in Fredricksburg but less busy than most and you can get in and out quick.
Everytime we go to Fredericksburg we have to go to the Buffalo Nickel. Haven't had anything there that we didn't like but the dried cherry white chocolate bread pudding is the BEST!!
There is no way to describe this place but I will try. Imagine an old-time general store or post office that would would see in a western. Now take that place it in the middle of an iconic town, find a chef that makes some of the best burgers on earth. Then you would have the Buffalo Nickel. Some of the best food in Fredricksburg hands down. If you go I highly suggest you get the Cherokee Chicken Poppers but make sure you get one order per person because I am fairly certain you will NOT want to share them with anyone.
We had just arrived to our Fredericksburg hotel and we're looking for a place to eat. The Buffalo Nickel was suggested by the hotel staff member and turned out to be our best restaurant experience during our trip. My wife and I both had burgers with Buffalo meat substitute. This burger easily topped my experience at the more high end, "gourmet" Burger joints. My son had the chicken strips and green beans. Also very well executed. We also ordered the fried zucchini and squash for an appetizer. I could have made a meal out of this on its own. Great place and we will return.
Stopped in here after a camping trip to enchanted rock. Was super surprised at how great the burgers were. Soo wish we had one in San Antonio. The atmosphere was was western eclectic, just loved it. This will be a regular stop for me when I travel that way.
Great food, great place, brilliant service from my server Kelly. Exceptional value. Come here for the real Texan experience.
Good food. Nice place (Last time I was there it was new and I have not had a chance to be back since)
We're quite picky about food and we were pleasantly surprised with this little find just off the main drag. It would get 5 stars but the coffee wasn't hot. I have severe food allergies. The staff took me seriously and was reassuring about what I could choose from. We had chilli, onion rings and zucchini/squash trays. It was all great. Not only was breading on the onion rings and zucchini/squash light and crisp, it was not overly greasy. Everything had a great flavor. Additionally, the bathrooms were very clean. We'll go BK if we're ever in Fredericksburg again.
Loved that place. Great lunch deals, great food. Really sorry to see them close.
The chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and green beans were excellent and so was the fresh peach ice tea.
